On the morning of January 20, 2026, Kuang Yaming Honors School hosted a seminar on the “Lixing” project-based course and educational reform. Attendees included Wang Jun, Dean of the Undergraduate School and Dean of the Kuang Yaming Honors School of Nanjing University; members of the School’s Party and administrative leadership team; mentors of the “Lixing” program; faculty members and student representatives; academic administrator, counselor, and course assistants. The meeting was chaired by Zhou Yuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kuang Yaming Honors School.

Despite the heavy snowfall that blanketed the campus in silver, the conference room was filled with warmth and lively discussion. Zhou Yuan delivered the opening remarks, reviewing the journey of the “Lixing” program since its launch and expressing heartfelt gratitude to the mentors for their dedicated efforts and commitment to education. She emphasized that continuously deepening teaching reforms and refining the design of the “Lixing” program are key initiatives for the school to promote the high-quality, independent cultivation of top innovative talents in the new era. She looked forward to gathering insights from this seminar to advance the course to a higher level.

Wang Jun elaborated on the significance and direction of the “Lixing” program. He pointed out that the core of the mentorship system lies in fully leveraging each teacher’s unique expertise and educational experience, allowing them to pass on their insights and reflections from academic exploration to students. He emphasized that research initiation for lower-year students should focus on igniting and nurturing their innate curiosity and passion for exploration. He hoped that the course would serve as a platform for students to discover their interests and sustain their curiosity, stating, “This is the original intent of the course and the shared goal of all teachers.”

During the mentor exchange session, representatives from the science and engineering disciplines, including Zhong Huan, Tang Wenli, Shen Rui, Cheng Gong, Fan Hongjun, Hu Wenbing, Jiang Ningxin, Luo Xinlian, Tu Juan, Weng Huihui, Du Lingjie, Dong Hao, Hu Jinglei, Chen Shuang, and Zeng Guixiang, shared their practical experiences and reflections based on teaching cases. They discussed topics such as stimulating students’ research interest, cultivating academic taste, and balancing project difficulty with feasibility, while also offering constructive suggestions on course duration, evaluation methods, and resource support. The lively and in-depth discussions provided valuable frontline perspectives for further course improvements.

Following this, Ge Luyi, a student representative from the class of 2025, delivered a speech. Drawing from his personal experience in the “Lixing” course, he vividly described his initial steps into research under the guidance of mentors, the growth he gained, and his expectations and suggestions regarding course contents and interaction forms. His genuine reflections provided essential feedback from the learners’ perspective for course optimization.

The meeting reviewed and discussed the “Implementation Plan for the ‘Lixing’ Project-based Course at Kuang Yaming Honors School.” Faculty members engaged in thorough discussions on key aspects such as course objectives, mentor responsibilities, process management, and outcome evaluation, reaching a basic consensus on refining the plan, which laid an institutional foundation for standardizing course management and ensuring course quality.

The seminar concluded in a harmonious and pragmatic atmosphere. The event served not only as a periodic review of the “Lixing” initiative for the semester but also as a new starting point for deepening teaching reforms and strengthening collaborative educational efforts. Kuang Yaming Honors School remains committed to its fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, further deepening teaching model reforms, and promoting high-quality, independent cultivation of top innovative talents.
